PC and Mac Software for Writers and Novelists

Yesterday I touched on the top professional script formatting software Final Draft which is a must buy for all budding screenplay writers, and TV drama writers too of course.

Today I’ve been thinking about the other forms of software you can buy, particularly online. I must admit I’ve bought one or two bits and pieces over the years, novel writing software, that kind of thing, but to be honest I’ve never really done much with them, preferring instead to put them away in the cupboard for a rainy day. That day never came of course, although it has rained a lot around here.

So I thought it might be an idea to actually do a little research into what’s available for writers today and report back to you and tell you how they stack up.

So in the next month or so I’m going to invest in some of the popular pieces of software and see how they perform. I don’t think it’s fair to assume that any of them will make us all ‘better’ writers, whatever that means, but my guess is they will certainly help us all organise our writing much better, give it some kind of structure.

At least that’s what I’m hoping, although to be honest I’m not that sure I want my writing to be that ‘structured’…I rather like the chaotic nature of it. It suits me. I suit it. Chaos and I get along rather well thankyou very much. Hey ho.

It should be interesting.
