Hi, my name is Steve Truelove and I run Write Good Books from my bases in East and West Yorkshire but publish books for writers throughout the U.K.
Write Good Books was originally set up in 2002 to offer self-publishing services to new writers, writing groups and community organisations in the Yorkshire area . At the time I set the imprint up I was freelance teaching at the Yorkshire Art Circus in Glasshoughton in Castleford, West Yorkshire.
The Art Circus was a fantastic community resource, offering courses in IT, art, sculpture, creative writing, publishing and website design. I was a freelance there for almost 13 years until its closure in 2007 and worked with an amazing group of people from the local area who were keen to learn all about the ‘new technology’ and ‘computer based publishing’.
Having worked with local community groups, helping them to create their own books, it was a natural step to move into the actual print side of the business. Luckily the Art Circus secured a generous grant to enable them to invest in print and binding machinery and the whole ‘self publishing’ boom took off in a big way.
I’ve lost count of the number of books I’ve helped writers publish…it must be in the hndreds by now, but I still get a great buzz out of helping new writers see their work in print. Once the Art Circus closed Write Good Books became my main self publishing outlet and thanks to a loyal band of writers, some now onto their fifth book, I’m still kept busy.
Self Publishing used to have a bad name, and quite rightly so in a lot of cases, but the digital revolution has changed a lot in the last ten years, mostly for the good, and there is no better time than now to start seriously thinking about having your own books produced.
The eBook revolution is now with us thanks to the Amazon Kindle reader and that market will grow tremendously in the coming years. Online eBook publishing is now something I do on a regular basis and I’m forever telling writers to think about ePublishing as an alternative to print, although to be honest most still want to have the thrill of having ‘a proper book’.,….and long may that continue.
If you’re a writer and you’re thinking of having your own books done then please do get in touch. I’ll help as much as I can, and it won’t cost as much as you think.
