I suppose it’s a safe bet to say that at one time or another we’ve all made some kind of New Year’s Resolution…right? I would think so.
And judging by the multitude of new blogs that have appeared over the last week or so it seems that writing a daily blog has been on many ‘resolution’ lists, which is a very good thing. Blogging is a fantastic way for writers to share their work with a global audience. It’s also a ‘must’ if you want to market and promote your latest book or upcoming book.
But I wonder how many of the blogs begun this week will actually survive? How many will make it to June? How many will make it to the end of January? My guess is a lot will disappear even quicker than that, which is a shame. And before you think I’m perfect, which I’m most definitely not, I can confirm that I have been one of these ‘blogging drop-outs’. Life simply got in the way.
So, what am I trying to say? Well, it’s advice really…nothing clever or revolutionary, just plain and simple advice. So here it is……
Once you begin, try to keep blogging regularly. Do it every day if you can, or at least every other day. Don’t try and make each blog a massive 700 word opus. Keep it simple. Have something to say, however trivial it may seem to you and just write what you feel. From the heart. Your readers will love you for it.
It’s the regularity that attracts followers too. Obviously it’s easier to write something if you have a project on the go, something you can chat about regularly, how it’s developing, the joy, the angst. Readers like that too……they will become addicted to your blog if it has some kind of pattern to it. They will become involved in your world, and, all being well, will begin to give you feedback.
So that’s it. Blog regularly and keep at it. It will not be easy though, I admit that. There will be all the usual distractions that will take up your valuable time, but stick at it. I promise you there will be real rewards at the end of the day….trust me.
By the way…if you have absolutely no idea how to set up a blog or how it all works or just need a spot of advice then please do get in touch through any of my websites…
